Burquitlam Shopping Centre
Coquitlam, Canada
The Burquitlam development consists of six residential towers adjacent to transit and the YMCA and comprises six unique microcosms at the podium. These will range from a high street restaurant promenade to grab-and-go convenience retail along with quiet courtyards, flexible space for community activities such as weekend markets, intimate gathering areas and active streets.
SCOPE
Designcorp International provided the architectural and masterplanning design for the transformation of Burquitlam Shopping Centre into a dynamic, mixed-use hub. The scope included masterplanning, site layout, retail repositioning, residential integration, and transit connectivity.
SOLUTIONS
To transform the Burquitlam Shopping Centre into a vibrant, mixed-use destination, the design introduced new residential towers to increase density and address housing needs. The retail layout was reimagined to improve visibility, flow, and leasing opportunities. A strong focus was placed on creating a pedestrian-friendly public realm, featuring enhanced streetscaping and inviting community gathering spaces. The development was seamlessly connected to the adjacent SkyTrain station, encouraging transit use and accessibility. Strategic massing and a thoughtfully balanced land-use mix helped maximize the site’s long-term value.
